8 Practical Tips for a Success Content Marketing Plan

If nobody likes your content, they won’t share it with their friends or followers; if nobody shares your content, there will be no traffic to your website; if there is no traffic to your website, you’re not making any money. It sounds like a vicious cycle, but it doesn’t have to be! In this blog post, I’ll outline 8 practical tips for creating successful content marketing that can help break the cycle and generate tons of leads.

Tip #1: Identify your messaging guidelines. Messaging guidelines will help to create a consistent tone of voice, characteristics, and writing style. Think of it as a guideline for your brand voice and style.

Tip #2: Develop a content marketing strategy. Your strategy should include an outline of the topics you want to cover, where they will be posted, how you will measure the post’s success and ways you will drive visibility to the post.

Tip #3: Get social. Social media is a powerful tool that should be used to help promote your content and increase its visibility. It’s not enough to simply post your blog to your social page. Use it as a talking point in online groups or forums. Social media is about being social. Strike up a conversation and use content to drive a point home or push a lead through your website.

Tip #4: Make your content shareable. The more people who share your content, the better chance you have of ranking higher on search engine results pages (SERPs). This will lead to increased traffic and ultimately result in more leads for your business!

Tip #5: It’s all about presentation. You may have the best content in the world but if it’s not well-presented, people will pass over it. Make sure your content is readable and visually appealing!

Tip #6: Quality beats quantity every time. Produce good quality content that you can regularly publish to establish credibility. Get more out of one quality piece of content by using bits and pieces, such as a statistic or quote, in your social feed to drive people without having to create multiple pieces.

Tip #7: Use a content marketing calendar. It’s critical to outline your content strategy in advance and publish at the correct times to help you stay on track with your goals. To keep things simple, create one for three months out, then update it every month until you’re ready for the next batch of content!

Tip #8: Measure metrics and repeat.  If you’re not tracking your content’s performance, don’t be surprised when it doesn’t live up to expectations. Create a dashboard or set of reports that show the key metrics related to content marketing efforts – views, shares, leads generated and cost savings achieved for example – so you can make smarter decisions in the future.

“Your content marketing strategy is only as good as the content you produce.”

A good content marketing strategy is worth the investment of time and effort. The American Marketing Association says that, on average, content marketing that feels personable or real will resonate with readers a 600% return on investment. This is why content marketing has become such a popular marketing strategy in recent years – and it’s also why marketers need to be well-versed in the best practices for executing it successfully.
